JULY 2018 Sunday 1st . The Annual Five A Side Football Competition again welcomed around 100 teams to the JCB Ground at Rocester on an extremely hot Summer’s day. Excellent planning ensured that over 200 matches were played much to the entertainment of nearly 2000 visitors. A good start to the new Rotary Year with a very healthy contribution to our funds.
Tuesday 3rd. Our Handover evening when outgoing President Dave Rushton welcomed Anita Thomas-Epple as our new President. Anita is the first lady President of the Club.
Tuesday 10th. Our Guest for the evening was Maria Desmond MBE. Maria was recently appointed to the role of Business Connector at Dovegate Prison. Maria explained the need to ensure that prisoners were “gainfully employed” and the various ways in which the Club might assist her.
Tuesday 17th. Lendwithcare is a major charity supported by our International Committee. The concept is to fund, with relatively small loans, small start-up businesses in the Third World. A presentation was made by Tony Shallcross of the funding and successful repayments to date. This was followed by the Members being involved in decisions as to further loans.
Tuesday 24th. At short notice we welcomed back Philip Knights, this time to talk on “Time”. A most interesting and thought provoking discussion, as always. Tuesday 31st. Our speaker for the evening was Nathan Konstantino of Talent Finders.. He spoke of the changes in recruitment over the last 50 years leading up to the current generation and their heavy involvement in Social Media and Gaming.
Tuesday 7th. Dave Lewis was our Speaker for the evening and his topic was the Rugeley Poisoner, Dr William Palmer. An 19th century doctor with a very dubious way of treating his patients.
Tuesday 14th A visit from the District Governor, Ashley Gray. A somewhat different “message” from normal with emphasis on the changes in Rotary, and also a video of the forthcoming conference venue, Liverpool.
Tuesday 21st An invitation to visit the new JCB Golf Course had been extended to Members, partners and friends. Over 60 people were shown the newly built facilties and were told of future developments in terms of guest accomodation. It was also an opportunity for “golfers”, and others, to try driving onto the 17th green, sited in the middle of the lake!
Tuesday 28th.. No Meeting following the Bank Holiday
Tuesday 7th A Business Meeting, with an update to Club Members of plans for the immediate future,including Charter Night.
