Emily Hancock and the Kenya Orphans Project

Earlier in the year we had received a request from Emily for support in her work with the Kenya Orphans Project.

Our donation allowed her to travel to Kisimu in Kenya, along with a group of other Medical Students, from Leeds University. The main aim of the Charity is to provide support for Deprived and Orphaned Children and this has taken a number of forms. Emily recently gave us a presentation, explaining some of the work she had done, from helping in a basic Feeding Centre to providing support for in a "HOVIC" night shelter, a halfway house for up to a 100 street children. She had also been involved in advising on essential health care, particularly where Aids and HIV were concerned. Emily answered a number of questions and the Club was left with the clear impression that our contribution had been well worthwhile.

to this on Feb 23rd--> ???

pinky

We are planning to plant 5000 Crocus Bulbs on the bank at the end of Town Meadows Way during the weekend of 2nd October. This is part of a national campaign and is being carried out to raise awareness for the Polio Plus/Thanks for Life Campaign. They should be flowering in February, hopefully to coincide with Rotary Day.

Offers of help with the planting should be made to Rotn Neil, who is coordinating the event.

This is an all day Visit leaving Uttoxeter mid morning, with Lunch prior to the 2.00pm Tour. If you haven't already booked see President Ted

Rotary Walks.

These continue to be extremely well supported and in late August around 20 Walkers gathered at the new Blithfield Reservoir Trail. Yet again the weather was kind and we enjoyed a tour of the various tracks and viewing areas around the east end of the reservoir, lead by Rotn.Pat. Lunch was taken at the Coach & Horses in Abbots Bromley. The next Walk will be on Wednesday 29th and will start from Abbotsholm School. More details later

In late July just over a dozen Members and their friends enjoyed the hospitality of Marstons Brewery. The Brewery has been updated but a large part of the traditional equipment has remained, and this has now become a Museum. The tour included an explanation of the brewing process and how some of the old equipment was managed. Also of interest was the high speedbottling plant, handling a wide range of products, apart from Marstons brands.

A sausage and mash supper followed, with the added advantage of tasting a range of the beers produced on site. Sadly not all Members were able to use their allocation!

Friends of Rotary

This is an opportunity to develop our contacts with people who support OUR CLUB. These may be regular attenders of our social events, helpers with our activities in the Community, or people who may be interested to see just what we have done/are doing.
We hope that the "Friends" will feel that they are automatically included in our events and request tickets directly, or can "book in" to any of our Speaker evenings without having to be asked, or offer their support in fund raising. In this way we hope we can broaden our support base. There is absolutely no committment! All we will ask is that they allow us to send a Bulletin, like this one, from time to time
