75th Anniversary Charter Night

Charter Night was again celebrated in the Platinum Suite at the Racecourse. This year was somehat special, it being our 75th year in the Town.

Although numbers were down on previous years those who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The now traditional meal of roast beef was carved at the table and this was followed by speeches from President Ted and also from the President of Inner Wheel, his wife, Lesley.

Guests included the District President, Glyn Johnson, and he surprised the Members by presenting a Citation from RI President Ray Klingworth.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Jean Martyn, of Brewood Rotary who provided us with a wide range of music on the Concert Organ and kept Members and Guests on their feet until midnight.

Thanks for Life Bulb Planting

brocus

pinky

How to plant 5,000 crocus bulbs in one Saturday morning..on a sloping bank. That was the project in early November for over a dozen Club Members. This required the volunteers to be split into five groups each preparing a square metre and covering over approximately 150 bulbs at a time. There was a system which was by and large, adhered to however why there were around 250 left over was never explained.

Maybe the results, appearing in February, will explain all!

CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Party will be held on Tuesday 14th Dec at Weston Hall, a new venue for this year. The format will be the well tried Christmas meal followed by entertainment from the more thespian Members. As always the President will benefit from the artistic skills of certain Members!

academy Visit to the JCB Academy
40 Members and their Partners were given a tour of the new JCB Academy in early October. The refurbishment of the old
Mill was most impressive, as were the faclities that had been provided for teaching the students. The Principal, Jim Wade, explained the format of the courses, with emphasis being towards engineering. although the much of the normal school curriculum was followed.
morgan

Visit to Morgan Cars In late September a dozen Members were given an eye opening tour of the Morgan factory. Traditional skills were in abundance, but with modern techniques in key areas. The result being a unique blend of the old and the new and a very successful company.

SWIMATHON
Make sure the dates Feb 24th to 27th are in your Diary. These are the days we have been given time at the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre to hold our Swimathon. We now need to find a minimum of 25 teams to support the event. These should comprise of up to 6 people and we are now looking for people to Register their interest in entering.

More details, and Registration, can be found are on the Club Website

Champagne Race Night

This Fund Raising Event was again held in the JCB Hospitality Suite, courtesy of Sir Anthony Bamford. The superb venue was well filled by approaching 200 "Punters" who enjoyed a very entertaining evening with some eight races on which to test their skill and judgement. Their generosity was appreciated, particularly when the opportunity to buy a horse for one of the last races, was concerned. This raised almost £600 contributing to a total of almost £2,000 for the evening

Santas Sleigh

Don't forget, this year we will be doing THREE evenings covering the local estates, Wed 15th - Fri 17th. Full details of where to meet will be circulated in due course.

As we are unable to collect at Tesco's this year, Sat 18th will see us in The Maltings.

Friends of Rotary

This is an opportunity to develop our contacts with people who support OUR CLUB. These may be regular attenders of our social events, helpers with our activities in the Community, or people who may be interested to see just what we have done/are doing.
We hope that the "Friends" will feel that they are automatically included in our events and request tickets directly, or can "book in" to any of our Speaker evenings without having to be asked, or offer their support in fund raising. In this way we hope we can broaden our support base. There is absolutely no committment! All we will ask is that they allow us to send a Bulletin, like this one, from time to time
