Swimathon

This was a new venture for the Club, taken on as an event involving the general Public. Other Clubs had experience of this type of event and were most supportive with advice and documentation.

The Event took place at the Uttoxeter Leisure Center, who generously donated five hours of pool time. Despite some late concerns we ended up with nearly 100 swimmers taking part. These were mainly teams of up to six people, although some swam for individual challenges. The total distance swum was 3610 lengths, equal to just over 56 miles!

Each swimmer was sponsored, based on the number of lengths swum by a team, and had one hour to acheive their targets. The choice of Charity to benefit from the sponsorship, The Donna Louise Trust, was widely welcomed and added to the enthusiasm and success of the event.

It is hoped that well in excess of £5,000 will be raised.

Theatre Visit

The Annual Theatre visit took place on Tuesday 15th February to the Victoria Theatre in Stoke. Almost 50 members and wives made the visit, starting with an excellent meal at the La Favorita restaurant in Newcastle. The play itself, "Bus Stop", was different to the normal musical that The Club has chosen, however it seemed to be enjoyed by the majority.

The

Barker

Award

For the second year of this Award there were five applicants deemed worthy of consideration. As the previous year, the applicants were all featured in the local Press, who were also involved in the judging. The actual award evening took place on Wednesday 10th March in the Town Hall with The Mayor on hand to present the Winner with a cheque for £200.

The winning candidate was Izaak Bailey from Thomas Alleynes, who had been extremely successful in raising significant sums of money for The Donna Louise Trust

Quizzing

The Meeting on Tuesday March 15th was relocated to the Uttoxeter Golf Club. The motive behind this move was for The Club to act as host for the latest round in the District Quiz.. Despite the support of around a dozen Club Members, our Team came in fourth. Sadly this looks like the end of our progress in this year's competition.

Rotary Walks

These will recommence on Wednesday 30th March. with a gentle walk around Dimmingsdale. As previously, the walks will be planned for the last Wednesday in the Month, with a different "volunteer" leading the walk on each occasion.

The emphasis of each walk is social, starting at 10.30 and lasting for around 2 hours. At the end of walk lunch will have been booked at a local pub. All are welcome, including non-Members.

Bavarian Evening

Friday May 20th is the Evening when the Kingstone Village Hall will again resound to the sounds of Von Winkler's Oompah Band. This popular event will have the same format as on previous occasions with a two course Supper, and, of course, a Bar.

Tickets are £15 per person and can be obtained from Bill Pearson, or can be booked on the Club Website.

Five A Side Football

Sunday 19th June

The venue (JCB Lakeside) is booked, Local Clubs have been notified and already we have two Entries! But we will need maximum support from all Members. Saturday afternoon is the time for pitch marking and tent erecting. Sunday will be in two sessions, changing at midday.

Please confirm your help on the Members Website .

Friends of Rotary

This is an opportunity to develop our contacts with people who support OUR CLUB. These may be regular attenders of our social events, helpers with our activities in the Community, or people who may be interested to see just what we have done/are doing.
We hope that the "Friends" will feel that they are automatically included in our events and request tickets directly, or can "book in" to any of our Speaker evenings without having to be asked, or offer their support in fund raising. In this way we hope we can broaden our support base. There is absolutely no committment! All we will ask is that they allow us to send a Bulletin, like this one, from time to time
